It’s been awhile and I can’t believe that the last time I posted was in October!! So much has happened and am excited to tell. So, the last time I posted, I was trying to figure out what to do. I was in between different options for new career paths. After thinking about it and weighing the pros and cons, I decided to get my NASM Personal Trainer Certification and specialize in Corrective Exercise. On April 8th, I passed my Personal Trainer Certification test!!! It was a journey that I started in November and finally came to fruition in April. I really doubted myself along the way, but I trudged on, and finished. I’m excited that I did. I still need to sign-up for the Corrective Exercise Specialization, but I figured, one step at a time. When I signed up for the CPT course, I also bundled it with Virtual Coaching and the Stretching and Flexibility Specialization. I am loving the stretching course, since it’s very similar to what I do in yoga. The only difference is that it goes deeper into learning the fascia and all of the different fascial nets. Super interesting, and it explains why stretching is SO important.
The funny thing is that after the HUGE relief of passing the test, I have found myself a little more lost than I was when I was doing the course. I have applied to a couple of gyms, and no luck yet, since I can only do part-time right now. There is one particular gym that I REALLY would like to work at, so I’m being patient for my interview. As of now, I know that I cannot leave my day job, but the ultimate goal is to be self-employed. I am excited to help people, however, I do suffer from impostor syndrome. I know that I know the material, but now I need to believe it 100%. I just need someone to give me a chance. An opening is all I need to prove myself.
While I wait, I’ve decided to post on my neighborhood social media group asking for a couple of volunteers to be my clients so that I can gain experience. I feel that this will go a long way in boosting my confidence! I always think back when I started teaching, I had to gain experience before I felt super confident in teaching.
On top of that, I’m in the process of changing my domain name to my new business name. Unfortunately, I don’t know much about websites, hosting, and domains, so I ended up buying the domain through another site, but found out recently that I have to wait 60 days!! to be able to transfer it to WordPress. I want to keep the website and just change the domain to the new URL, but apparently it’s a little more involved than I thought!! However, I learned to connect my new website to this one, so at least that step is done. Fixing it up is next!! Please be patient with me as I try to figure out how to change the theme and the way it looks.
Then, finding a new name for my business took me awhile. My focus is beginner clients (women, weight loss, elderly) and those recently cleared from an injury needing to strengthen their body. I also want to continue doing yoga, so it was hard coming up with a name that encompassed everything. After much thought (and TONS of suggestions from hubby and my friend), I finally came up with Grounding Fitness. I like the catch-phrase “work-out (or working out) from the ground up”. The thought for this phrase came to me because in order to have proper form and to feel good (also avoid injuries) while work-out, you need to take care of any imbalances in the body. You do that by building your foundation and strengthening any under-active muscles and stretching any overactive muscles. Building this into your work-out program will help with the “foundation”.
Finally, I created my logo and am super excited bout it. After I finally created “the one”, I felt that I had been in a “Say YES to the dress” episode. It hit me when I looked at it, because it was meant to be. The lettering is dark brown to represent grounding and the opaque geometric symbol in the back reminded me of leaves. So, just like how plants get their nutrients and come up from the ground being strong and sturdy, that’s how I visualize my business practice. You need to have a solid foundation before you attempt the harder exercises, so that you can avoid injuries.

It’s been a long journey that led me to this. I am excited to help my clients get stronger and feel great! I tend to be a shy person, but am going against my comfort zone and putting myself out there because I want to help people. I always knew that helping and teaching were my calling, I just didn’t know how. Therefore, even though I still crochet and practice yoga, it is a goodbye to Slipstitch and Mantras and hello to Grounding Fitness!! Stay tuned for what’s to come! 🙂
