Commit 30 Planner Review

I made a decision this year to get myself on track! I did a lot of research on planners and kept coming back to the Commit 30 planner. After seeing an ad for it on Instagram, I looked further into the product. Commit 30 got its name by motivating people to commit to goals for 30 days/30 minutes each day. On their website they say, “we encourage you to work on your goals and healthy habits 30 days at a time for a minimum of 30 minutes a day to build momentum and forward progress.”

Upon purchasing the planner, you can download a free form called “10 Step Goal Setting Guide”. This aids in pinpointing specific goals and achieving them incrementally. My main issue is setting lofty goals in my head, but not knowing how to bring them into fruition. This form assisted me in guidance of my goals, and the steps to achieve them. Before the planner arrived at home, I completed the form to help me develop my goals. I then added them to the planner when it arrived. When you open the planner, a huge space enables you to create a vision board. I’ve never done one, so this was a lot of fun!

A unique feature is the front cover, which gives 30 day challenges options! If additional suggestions are needed, you can visit their website, which has TONS of printouts. Now that I have used the planner for about a month and a half, here are some pros/cons.

Pros

Honestly, there are many of them. They give you an option of two sizes. I chose the Deluxe, which is about 7″ by 10″. I enjoy writing a lot, so this is a perfect size for me. It’s about the same size as a journal or notebook as you would pick up at the store. I chose the sea green color, however there are about 10 colors that are available. The cover has an etched look, which is extremely sturdy (feels like leather, however, it isn’t). A couple features that the planner has that I like is a monthly checklist for your challenge, daily goal settings, a back pocket, and an elastic band to keep it closed. When you open the planner, the pages lay flat, and are thick. I’ve been using the Sakura Pigma Micron and Detail Doodlers pens, and they show up brightly and don’t bleed through.

I also like how they have different layouts to choose. I don’t know if the option wasn’t there, or if I accidentally ordered the wrong one, but I ordered the M-Sun week layout. That was one thing that I had to get adjusted to. If you notice on the picture towards the bottom, I had to draw a line to separate the weekends, so I wouldn’t keep messing up. For example, I kept writing Friday things on the Saturday column. On their website, they do have the option available to order a Mon or Sun beginning week planner. They also have undated planners that you can number them how you’d like. This isn’t a big deal though, once I drew the line, it helped me tremendously!!

In the beginning of the planner, it lists the steps that you can follow to achieve your yearly goals. These are:

  • Step 1-my vision
  • Step 2-my monthly goals overview
  • Step 3-my daily action steps
  • Step 4-track each day
  • Step 5-share your goals

I love how each month has a spot for monthly goals and the actions/steps that it will take to get there. On the right, it has a checklist (although, I use small stickers. For some reason it motivates me!!) to cross off every day that you are committed to your chosen monthly goal/challenges. It even gives you a spot that you can write a reward if you meet your challenge. At the end of the month, I complete the bottom part that pushes you to reflect on your month and decide whether you met your goals and rationale. I also write my improvements for next month to be more successful.

The planner consists of large writing space, and plenty of room for notes in the back. I utilize this space to write ideas for my blog, reading, and to-do lists.

Within each week, I write what I am committed to achieving, and my top 3 to-do’s of the day. Finally, it contains the hours listed to balance the time to write in your planner and daily to do items. I believe it would be great if your job required a lot of meetings or appointments. This planner certainly enables you to make it your own (I like color!!) and add as much or little as you like.

CONS

While I love everything about the planner, there are a couple features it is lacking. I am a big habit tracker, and unfortunately, it doesn’t have one. However, you can print one out on their website. It contains a big and small tracker; which I printed out the little ones and glued them on my monthly pages.

On the left column, I wrote what I wanted to keep track of and checked off it they were completed or not. While this is workable, I wish it had one built into the planner itself. I’m also big on journaling, and I’ve seen some planners that have journaling pages and prompts in it. I would have loved for this planner to have at least one page of these in it.

Finally, I wish it had some pages dedicated to exercising. I like to keep track of my daily workouts. Currently, I am tracking work-outs in another journal, but I wish it would have contained simply feature to track this item.

Their website does have a separate journal for working out, as well as separate journals for: Money, Joy & Gratitude, Rockit, Adventure, Ideas, and a Goal Workbook. They are all really neat, however I don’t want to have separate journals for each thing. Ideally, the planner would be more efficient integrating these features rolled into one.

Final Thoughts

Overall, I do like this planner. It contains no frills and is very business-like. It does have motivational quotes which I like. You can purchase stickers and accessories from their website to use. Since I had some stickers from an old planner, I decided to use them with this one. I did purchase a few things that I believe have assisted me in utilizing the planner. They are:

To give the planner a more “fun” feel, I do use A LOT of colored pens and stickers. It’s only been about 2 months that I’ve used this planner. However, while I do like it overall, I feel that you should get more for the price (I bought it on sale right after the new year, and was still pricey). While I more than likely won’t get this one next year, it did help me to learn how to get more focused on achieving goals. I personally believe this was a great starter planner! It gave me focus and direction. This planner is GREAT for anyone that doesn’t like cutesy frills and extra pages. It gets right to the point!

If you are thinking of purchasing a planner, I hope you found this review helpful. Let me know what you think! If you are using a different planner, let me know which one! There are lots of options out there, I’m sure there’s TONS that I haven’t explored yet!
