My SEVA Project: Yoga and the Tarot Workshop

I hope everyone is nice as warm. Here in Texas, we are finally coming to the last bit of the winter storm. I can see the finish line!! Already looking forward to summer weather in the next couple of months. I am NOT built for the cold!! What a 2021 so far.

A great goal I achieved at the start of this year was finishing up my 300 YTT!! It’s taken up A LOT of my time, but I’m excited to be able done and have more free-time! My final project involved doing a SEVA (selfless) Workshop in order to graduate. I had to do a 2 hour workshop on whatever topic I wanted, making sure I did research and integrated it into yoga. After thinking about it, I combined two things I love. Yoga and the tarot!! Granted, I love crocheting, but I had a hard time thinking about how to make both work together, unless I did a full on face-to-face crochet workshop. Therefore, I decided to do a workshop on the tarot, and how to integrate it into yoga. I am really excited as to how it turned out!

Selfless Love

Part of the project involved us picking a charity so that if people wanted to donate (instead of donating to me for the workshop), it would go to the charity I chose. I decided to go with Friends 4 Life.

  • Why:  I love all pets and feel a need to help displaced and abused animals.  The organization is from Houston (close to home) and they support the no-kill shelter model.  They save animals regardless of their origin, breed, age, or condition.
  • I love their principle:  “Every Animal Matters”
  • Programs they have: Free Spay/neuter (Fix Houston program),  Food Bank (F4L Animal Food Bank), set-up (during Harvey) first ever shelter where people stay together with their pets after disasters & providing preventative exams/vaccinations and food to owners financially affected by COVID-19.
  • Love for pets: If you love pets as much as I do, consider a small donation to give back!

Workshop Topics

Let’s dive in! The workshop starts with an hour presentation going over the tarot and then ends with a grounding sequence integrating the it. Below is the “journey” I chose for my workshop. I was SUPER excited as to how it turned out:

  • Introduction
  • SEVA Project – Charity of Choice
  • History of the Tarot (background, symbolism, references)
  • Types of Decks
  • Simple everyday spreads (and explanation)
  • Ways to integrate the tarot into your yoga practice
  • Yoga sequence
  • Closing

Yoga and the Tarot Workshop Video

Thoughts

I’m really happy with how it turned out. It definitely took a little longer than I thought to do the research, Powerpoint, sequence, and flow video. Looking back and reflecting, I realized that the workshop took longer than the 2 hours, but I really do get into the topic! I know I should be more mindful of the time, but I hated cutting things short and missing information (or parts of the flow)!

In addition, as I looked at the presentation portion of the video, I noticed that although I could see the whole presentation on my end, it looks like words got cut off when recorded. I apologize for that! However, I am attaching the slides that went along with the workshop. That way, you can use it to follow along, and have the links to the various sites I post.

Overall, I was happy with the results. This was my very first workshop!! This has been an amazing journey, and I’m SO excited to see where it leads me! Leave me a message @slipstitch.and.mantras or here, and let me know what you think of the workshop!
