Sweaty Beginners Flow

Updates!

Welcome! Hope everyone is doing well during this crazy time. As August starts getting closer, I’m starting to prepare more and more for my class (I teach 4th grade Bilingual). It’s nuts, first we start off as face-to-face, and now we’re online for a bit (and then going back to face-to-face). However, things are like the weather, they could change at any time. I’ve succumbed to “riding the wave”, and not get stressed out. It is what it is, so I’ll only worry about the things that I CAN control!

As most of you know, I received my 200 YTT this past May, and have been super ecstatic! I have learned SO much and continue to learn more as I delve deeper. During this time, I also got certified in Yin Yoga, Restorative Yoga, Chair Yoga, Chakra Healing, Guided Meditation, Mudra Healing, and Ayurveda. PHEW!!! I’ve definitely been keeping myself busy!! 🙂 This has given me a lot of knowledge and confidence in teaching that I thought I would never have. This journey has been truly exciting!

About a month ago, an opportunity arose for me to deepen my practice and apply for the 300 YTT (I like to think of the 200YTT as a Bachelors and the 300 YTT as a Masters). I thought about it, and weighed the pros and cons. I was a little nervous because it is not self-paced and it goes from mid-August to the end of December. With me starting teaching again, I almost did not apply. However, I threw caution to the wind and applied. I received my acceptance email about a week later, and have been ecstatic since! I can’t wait for it to start! I’ll have to be very disciplined, but I’ve always learned, if you want something bad enough, don’t make excuses!!! I want it, so I’m going to make it work! Work and life will definitely stay balanced this school year. 🙂

Teaching Classes

So, I have been thinking about this a lot, because there is no way I can continue teaching classes during the day while I’m at work (and also working on my 300 YTT). I started putting pressure on myself because I did not teach last week and also this week, but I had to STOP and ask myself what’s important at this moment. I can’t do it all. Therefore, I want to start recording flows and post them on YouTube. The one’s that I have posted so far are about an hour long (some over) and that’s just not feasible for some people. I am going to start recording shorter flows (all kinds, I want to delve more into pranayama, meditation, chanting, yin yoga, restorative yoga, chair yoga) for those that want a quick sequence without needing an hour of time. I’ll still do the longer ones when I have time. When I have breaks, I’ll teach classes and record them, because I want to keep practicing with an audience.

Lastly, just putting this out there for the universe to hear, my goals for these next 12 months is to teach at least 1 class at a studio. With the pandemic going on, I haven’t really explored yoga studios around my area. I would really like to first start going at least once a week and meeting new people. Eventually, becoming a substitute, and then finally having my own class. That would be a total dream!! While teaching online is great, I enjoy being around people and feeling the energy in the class!!

On to the Sweaty Beginners Flow

I put this sequence together with the mindset that I wanted students to feel like they got a good workout, but also wanted to integrate some mindfulness into it. For a while, I’ve been wanting to integrate pranayama and meditation into my sequences. For some reason, I always felt silly, like I couldn’t do it, or I was trying to be something I wasn’t. Finally, I put a STOP to that thinking, and did something that fit my personality (and hoped that the students would like it). At the end of the sequence, I read an awesome short meditation (with an affirmation) from the book Mudras by Gertrud Hirschi. I was very excited to teach this class! Here it is (hope you enjoy):

Some thoughts

I always welcome suggestions. I do notice that I say the word “Uhm” A LOT in the beginning and end. I definitely need to work on that. However, this is why I love doing these classes! It helps me to feel more confident in what I want to say.

Hope you like it and get a good workout! Have a beautiful week and stay safe! Paz y luz.
